The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth and the fifth largest moon in the Solar System. It is the largest natural satellite of a planet in the Solar System relative to the size of its primary, having 27% the diameter and 60% the density of Earth, resulting in ¹⁄₈₁ its mass

 

Asteroids are minor planets, especially those of the inner Solar System. The larger ones have also been called planetoids. These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not show the disk of a planet and was not observed to have the characteristics of an active comet, but as minor planets in the outer Solar System were discovered, their volatile-based surfaces were found to more closely resemble comets and so were often distinguished from traditional asteroids

A comet is an icy small Solar System body that, when passing close to the Sun, heats up and begins to outgas, displaying a visible atmosphere or coma, and sometimes also a tail. These phenomena are due to the effects of solar radiation and the solar wind upon the nucleus of the comet. Comet nuclei range from a few hundred metres to tens of kilometres across and are composed of loose collections of ice, dust, and small rocky particles. The coma and tail are much larger, and if sufficiently bright may be seen from the Earth without the aid of a telescope. Comets have been observed and recorded since ancient times by many different cultures.

Una nebulosa és una regió del medi interestel·lar format per gas i per pols. Estan formades fonamentalment per hidrogen, l'element químic més abundant en l'univers, amb quasi el 10 % d'heli i quantitats molt petites d'altres substàncies. Tenen una importància cosmològica notable perquè són el lloc dels quals neixen les estrelles per fenòmens de condensació i agregació de matèria, encara que en altres ocasions es tracta de les restes d'una estrella que ha mort.

En sentit general, una estrella és tot objecte astronòmic que brilla amb llum pròpia, mentre que en termes més tècnics i precisos es podria dir que es tracta d'una esfera de plasma que manté la seva forma gràcies a un equilibri hidrostàtic de forces. L'equilibri es produeix essencialment entre la força de gravetat, que empeny la matèria cap al centre de l'estrella.

Un satèl·lit artificial és un objecte fabricat per l'home i llançat a l'espai que, gràcies a la seva velocitat, és capaç de mantenir-se en una òrbita estable al voltant de la terra o un altre cos celeste sense precipitar-se contra la superfície d'aquest. Els satel·lits son maquines que envien els de la NASA per a observar els planetes i per a saber si cauen meteorits.
